Sleep Technologist with EEG Technologist (preferred)

TITLE:  Sleep Technologist part-time with *EEG Technologist (preferred)*

DEPARTMENT: Respiratory/Sleep Study

POSITION STATUS:  Part- or full-time position (30-40 hours/week). Sleep studies typically conducted at night and readings/scoring done during day so this position requires availability of night and day hours. Benefit eligible position!

 

*We seek a Sleep Technologist and an added bonus is an individual who also can also perform EEG’s. Our sleep lab is pending accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)!

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Outpatient Manager, performs various polysomnograms and other sleep disorder tests. Responsible for attaching electrodes and monitors to patients who are participating in a sleep study. Monitors the patient throughout the sleep study and documents observations, collects data from various monitors and reports this information to the physician. Responsible for CPAP titration and oxygen therapy when applicable. Scores studies. Studies may be conducted in home or in sleep lab.

 

DUTIES:
Knowledgeable of common sleep disorders and treatment options
Knowledgeable of Sleep Lab/EEG equipment, its function and purpose, including calibration
Conducts all necessary paperwork and procedures for prior authorization of procedures with a number of insurance companies, if necessary
Reviews patient's medical history, allergies, current medications, patient questionnaire
Explains procedures to patient before, during and after sleep study/EEG
Performs patient set-up: attaches electrodes and monitors to patient according to accepted standards
Monitors patient via video for any unusual sleep behaviors
Records observations of patient throughout the sleep/EEG study at specific time intervals and as appropriate
Ensures signals are received on the computer, all monitors are recording data throughout the sleep study
Ability to gather artifact-free polysomnographic data; trouble shoots any artifacts and provides correction
Ability to recognize normal and abnormal sleep/EEG patterns
Ability to correctly interpret physiologic tracings and to quickly make a decision to intervene regarding an emergency situation or potential for an emergency situation
Knowledgeable of protocols for CPAP/Bi-level therapy
Knowledgeable of protocols for oxygen therapy
Scores various aspects of the sleep study according to established guidelines and sends to physician for interpretation
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient's safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Maintains and operates all Sleep Lab equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests Sleep Lab equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently
Maintains a good working relationship with other departments
Communicates clearly and concisely with the Sleep Lab Medical Director and referring physicians
Treats patients and families with respect and dignity
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Stays current in field through continuing education, seminars, professional journals and societies
Documentation meets current standards and policies
Ensures patient forms and billing information is completed in an expedient manner
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages including pediatric through geriatric
Perform other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduate and Associates degree in electroneurodiagnostic technology or a certificate in END technology from a CAAHEP accredited program
  • Sleep Technologist – completion of a polysomnography program or one year experience in EEG, or respiratory therapy.Responsible for preforming in-lab polysomnographic studies as well as HSAT (home sleep apnea testing) studies.Knowledge of and adherence to AASM guidelines for an accreditation ready sleep lab
  • Registered in sleep technology or accepted to sit for the registry examination through National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT)
  • EEG Technologist – performing diagnostic EEGs. Completion of electroneurodiagnostic (END) program or completion of a 1 year CAAHEP accredited END program. Registry of the registration exams by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologist (ABRET)
  • Previous hospital (outpatient and inpatient) experience preferred
  • Possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license

Ski resorts within 30 minutes of our facility. Madison WI is 1.5 hours, Dubuque IA is 30 minutes, Chicago IL is 3.5 hours.....we're in the heart of the Tri-States!
